If you've ever wondered what uncensored hip-hop on the radio would sound like, then "Pirate Fuckin' Radio 100" is exactly the album that you need to pick up to satisfy your curiousity. The man behind this project is Billy Jam, a known hip-hop journalist and longtime host of the Hip Hop Slam now on pirate radio in the Bay Area. Previously, the Hip Hop Slam was broadcasted on 90.3 FM KUSF in San Francisco but after a daring move by Billy Jam back in 1994 to play Public Enemy's "Muse Sick N Hour Mess Age" album without bleeping out any of the naughty words that the FCC doesn't want you to hear on the airwaves, the Hip Hop Slam on KUSF was unfortunately yanked off the air.
Despite this setback, Billy Jam resurfaced on the airwaves once again under the banner of "Pirate Fuckin' Radio" and this album is a celebration of its 100th show with smokin-wicked tracks by the Invisibl Skratch Piklz,Peanut Butter Wolf, Eddie Def, DJ Killahoe, Money B. & much more! As I was listening to this album, I started having flashbacks to my own old college radio days with the exception to the fact that even I never got that bold when I was on the air. There is no dead air in-between tracks and you get the feelingas if you're actually listening to it on the radio with call-ins and station ID's mixed in. If you're really into turntable tricks & stunts,I would definitely recommend "Pirate Fuckin' Radio 100" because you won't likely find a hip-hop radio show like this anywhere on the radio dial in your area...unless it's a pirate radio station, maybe!
