Definitely a legend in hip-hop history, Kurtis Blow was the first rap artistto ever sign a deal with a major record label(Mercury) and also the firstto earn a gold record for his 12-inch single "The Breaks" and was alsothe first rapper to do a Sprite commerical in 1985. Among the list of someof his other noteworthy songs include "Christmas Rappin'," "AJ Scratch,""8 Million Stories," "Basketball" and "If I Ruled The World."

Blow was also a very prolific producer back in the day and hasproduced acts like Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde, Oran Juice Jones and theFat Boys. Among his other projects in recent years includehosting a hip-hop show on Power 106 in L.A., producing all three volumes of "Kurtis Blow PresentsThe History Of Rap" series which features various classic hip-hop songs on Rhino Records andappearing in a musical called Echo Park in 2000 which chronicled the evolution of hip-hop music and culture from 1978 to 1981.
