Welcome one and all to HypeZone Entertainment,a website dedicated to supporting and promoting thethe very best in hip-hop. Now when I say the verybest, I don't necessarily mean in terms of recordsales, notoriety, Grammy awards or any of that othercrap that is often most associated with being considered"the best." In fact, many of the artists whoare truly representing today are not internationally knownand even if they are, they still don't get the kind of propsthat they deserve. So what exactly does this allmean? Well, if it's phat, we'll support it regardlessof whether the artist is famous worldwide, or is just yourregular average everyday Joe who works at Mickey D'sand flows like Redman or Rakim. So, if you're a anup-and-coming MC or DJ with skills, let us know and wewill hookyou upwith a big fat plug!
So, is anybody else here getting sick and tiredof all the delays surrounding the release of the upcoming new Run-D.M.C.album? The new album titled "Crown Royal" which featuresguest appearances from artists such as Fat Joe, Nas, Fred Durst & Kid Rock was supposedto have come out like last year but now it's anybody's guesswhen it will be out. Apparently,Arista was unable to get approval from Fred Durst's & Kid Rock's record labels to release the tracks that theyboth appear on as singles. Great, more legal red tape...Speaking ofupcoming releases, the Mountain Brothers should have the follow-up to their debut "Self: Volume 1" album out sometime later this year...Del Tha Funky Homosapien is out now with his fourth album "Both Sides Of The Brain" on Hieroglyphics Imperium Records and features special appearances byCompany Flow's El-P, Hiero's own Casual, Prince Paul, Khaos Unique,A-Plus and Domino(from Hiero) who also serves as the executive producer on the record.
Listeners in Los Angeles are fuming over the abrupt cancellation of the Wake Up Show on KKBT and I can't say that I blame any of them one bit. For the most part, you won't find too much support(if any at all) for underground hip-hop on commercial radio stations and the Wake Up Show is the most popular syndicated hip-hop show worldwide and can be heard in over 19 markets and five countries. As for why the show was yanked from KKBT, it was basically a disagreement over the music that was being played. The program director wanted the hosts Sway & King Tech to play more commercial crap...I mean rap...no I was right the first time...crap which would change the whole flavor and direction of the show completely. Jeez, isn't it bad enough when commercial stations like KKBT have to play junk like Puff Daddy and Will Smith all freakin' day long without having to try and force the only true hip-hop show in their lineup to do the same damn thing? It's bullshit like this that is truly hurting the hip-hop community because without shows like the World Famous Wake Up Show we would all be limited to just the slim pickings of hearing commercial rap artists on the radio that fans of underground hip-hop can't stand to listen to in the first place. The reason why people tune into the Wake Up Show is because they are sick of all the other crap commercial stations play 24/7 and want a change from all that nonsense. Where else on a commercial station can you hear artists like Krs-One, Rakim & the Hieroglyphics? This show is only on the air once a week for three hours and what kills me is that stations like KKBT are no longer willing to at least give the underground hip-hop audience even that much time. Come on, what's three hours a week? On a positive note, the Wake Up Show is still going on strong and can be heard in sydication on other stations throughout the globe including KMEL in San Francisco where it all started. If you can't get it on any of the stations in your area, you can always go to their web site at www.wakeupshow.com and hear it broadcast live over the net every Saturday night at 11pm(Pacific Standard Time).
Peace, J.T. The Brown-Eyed Genie
